WHAT ARE
COMMONWEAL LOCAL COMMUNTIES?
At Commonweal, our mission is to provide a forum for civil, reasoned debate on the interaction of faith with contemporary politics and culture. While we have long championed this forum in our pages, these discussion groups were developed to serve the needs of all who wish to participate in these pressing conversations on a decidedly local level.
Since 2013, readers and friends of Commonweal have gathered in their local communities for critical conversation on the issues that matter most. Today, there are nearly 50 groups meeting around the country, and more are in formation.
Each community determines their goals, set-up, meeting times, and the readings best suited for them. For new communities, this guide to planning and facilitating discussion can help you get started. As for the conversation itself, many use Commonweal's Conversation Starter Series while others discuss readings from the pages of the magazine or set their own agenda entirely.
Use the form on this page to join a CLC in your area. Use the map at the bottom of the page to find a group near you.
